The Welcome Group
Anne Alford is the coordinator of the Welcome Group. The aim of the organization is to reach out and make contact with new parishioners.
The parish office communicate with the Welcome Group, advising them when new people arrive. The success of Anne ’s work is dependant on the accuracy of this information. She prefers to visit people who are genuinely new to the parish, since they often need some help or advice.
Moving to a new area, particularly for the single and elderly, can be an enormous upheaval and Detta hopes that she and her group are of some help in making people feel welcome to the parish.
The Welcome Group actually provide all new par
ishioners with a census form. The form is an attempt to gather accurate information on St Vincent’s parishioners. Unfortunately people are a little suspicious of forms and prefer not to complete them.
Despite the challenges Anne is committed to the Welcome Group and to the parish. Anyone spending time in her company will realise she has enjoyed being a member of the parish.
New parishioners who would like to get in touch with the Welcome Group should look for their card at the back of church or contact the parish office.
