Angels

Trish Brennan is the coordinator of the Angels. The aim of the group is to provide meals to people in the parish who are in need.

The Angels are a young group, only forming last year. Trish Brennan is responsible for the simple but effective concept. The group now have around twenty members, who are responsible for cooking the food. Trish stores the food in a freezer. It is her job to get the food to the right people and manage stock levels. The group rely upon the clergy and other parishioners to alert them to people who may be in need.

The Angels send the meals to parishioners in two identifiable groups; people with a sudden but temporary problem and the elderly or sick. Members of the first group may be coping with bereavement, a new baby or may have a family member in hospital. Cooking a meal is probably the “last thing on their mind.” The second group is based upon people who are not physically able to cook a meal.

While the group perform a very straightforward function, they are also trying to develop and strengthen a sense of community in the parish.

The Angels are always welcome. Members have been met with gratitude rather than any hostility or indifference. The group recently promoted what they do in The Vineyard, which is the parish magazine. They want to emphasise that they give food specifically to people who live in the parish. New members are always welcome.
